The Secret to a Wardrobe You Love

Dorienne Thomas • March 29, 2025

Spring is officially here (even if it still feels a little chilly!), and that means one thing—spring cleaning! Most of us give our homes a good refresh this time of year, but what about our wardrobes? When was the last time you did a proper clear-out?

Your wardrobe should feel like your own personal boutique—full of clothes you love, that fit your lifestyle, and make you feel confident. If you’re always short on time, having a clutter-free wardrobe is even more important. No one wants to waste precious minutes digging through clothes that don’t work! Let’s sort through the chaos and create a wardrobe you actually love.

Why You’re Not Loving Your Wardrobe

If getting dressed every morning feels like a struggle, it’s probably because your wardrobe is packed with items that:

  • Don’t fit anymore (your body or your lifestyle!).
  • Were impulse buys or gifts you never really liked.
  • Are outdated or no longer feel like you.

Hanging onto these pieces takes up space—both physically and mentally—making it harder to enjoy the clothes you do love.

The Secret to a Wardrobe You Love = The Wardrobe Detox

The trick to a wardrobe that works for you? Let go of what doesn’t! Here’s a quick and easy step-by-step guide to doing your own wardrobe detox:

Step 1: Set the Mood

Block out 2–3 hours for this. Put on your favourite playlist or podcast and grab a coffee (or wine, no judgment!).

Step 2: Sort Into Three Piles

Label three areas: Love ItMaybe, and Let It Go.

  • Love It → You wear it all the time, it fits, and it makes you feel amazing.
  • Maybe → You haven’t worn it in a year, but you think you might.
  • Let It Go → It doesn’t fit, it’s worn out, or it just doesn’t feel like you anymore.

Step 3: The Try-On Test

For every “Maybe” item, ask yourself:

  • Does it fit me right now?
  • Does it reflect my style today?
  • Would I be excited to wear it tomorrow?

If the answer is “no,” take a cue from Frozen and… Let. It. Go!

Step 4: Organise What You Love

Put your Love It items back in a way that makes getting dressed easier—organised by category or colour.

Step 5: Donate or Sell

Take your Let It Go pile to a charity shop or sell items in good condition on sites like Vinted to make space (and maybe some extra cash for new pieces!).

Feeling Overwhelmed? I’ve Got You!

If this all sounds like a lot to tackle on your own, don’t stress—that’s where I come in! As a personal stylist, I’ll help you:
